Capture VHS using Canon ZR20?
 

So for the last year i've been digitizing my parents mini dv tapes of my siblings and I and I've been going down the rabbit hole on this website. Everything went smoothly though. I offloaded through firewire to FCP and saved them uncompressed. Just recently, My grandmother gave me some old home video tapes of my mom in the 80's so now my next job is to digitize these and I want to do it right. First of all, the tapes are in immaculate condition so I don't think I'll need a really good TBC. I really need a good VCR though, but thats not the concern right now. I know y'all say that the best way to capture is on xp with an ati card but I would rather my parents save that money for the VCR. Now this might be a really dumb question, but on the instruction manual for my parents mini dv camcorder, I think it says you can record VHS onto mini dv? Is this possible or am I misreading it? If it is possible, Would that mean that there could also be a TBC built into the camcorder and would the quality be really good or really bad? I hope this doesn't sound stupid lol.

You could capture VHS via a miniDV or D8 camcorder in passthrough if you have a firewire port (iLink) on your computer but that doesn't solve your need to a good VCR for playback.

Okay great! I have a MacBook air with a firewire adapter. I was also looking at the JVC SR-S365U VCR. Would that be good enough for home videos? It's just a basic VCR, non the less it is S-VHS. For $900 you expect to have a line TBC and in working condition. See VCR recommendation thread here.
