What projector for capturing 8mm film?
 

I have a Tobin Systems telecine projector that works well for both 8mm and Super8 film. However, there is always a slight jitter in the capturing. It's as if the transport mechanism on the projector doesn't want to feed the film smoothly. I've tried several different reels both small and large and it's always the same. This machine was built around a Bell & Howell projector.

This machine has S-Video output that connects directly to my Pinnacle 710-USB, so the problem is not in the capturing workflow.

I've seen other machines like this on the market. Just wondering if I need to make a change.

Questions...
1. Is this normal?
2. Is there some sort of adjustment on the projector to make it feed the film smoothly?
3. What machine do you use and do you recommend it?

Honestly just use a newer solution like the Wolverine or Kodak Reel machines over an ancient telecine.

I believe Clive Tobin made good gear. This sounds like an older model. With the projector switched off, is the film gate clean and unworn? As the projector is running, is there a healthy film loop both above and below the film gate? They are the first things I would check.

A short movie upload would help clarify what you are describing. But you'd probably be better off discussing these issues on a forum specialising in movie telecine/scanning such as Cinematography.
