Top-screen tearing JVC HR-S6722EK?

3 Attachment(s)
Hello!

I've tried to capture the image using just the VCR JVC HR-S6722EK connected using the S-VHS cable to my capture USB device.

Attachment 15983

The results are terrible to say at least... I've tried to rewind the tape a couple of times, and it seems that the tearing is somewhat less visible now (more stable image). Although I can see now that the VCR is more likely to drop frames... The screen is full of white noise at the begging of tape - that was not an issue before the "rewind procedure".

Attachment 15985

I've already enabled the auto timer function, which improves the quality dramatically. But is there any way to achieve something more pleasing to the eyes using this VCR? Would it be a good idea to pass the image through a Panasonic ES10 (Should I buy one)? Would that make the image whole?

I don't know what auto timer does but I don't think it has anything to do with picture quality, The white noise could be due to dirty heads from rewinding tapes, give the tape transport a good clean. The ES-10/15 seem to be the solution for image tearing according to a lot of members.

I have both the ES10 and 15 and they are fairly inexpensive.
Your image displays the type of error they excel at fixing.
Research the forum a little on those ES units, you’ll learn a lot.
You’ll need the remote.

Hi! You can find out more in this topic I started a few years ago: https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vid...op-corner.html

"Auto timer" has nothing to do with playback.
It's for scheduled recordings: if activated, it saves you from having to press the "timer" button to activate the timer — the VCR enters "timer waiting mode" as soon as you put it on standby. If this option is "OFF" on the menu, you have to put the VCR on standby and then press the "timer" button if you want it to perform unattended recordings.

@latreche34 @BarryTheCrab @PeterVR: I've managed to buy a used ES-10 and the top-screen tearing is no longer! Thanks a lot! I'm gonna definitely check out the rest of the forum to study more about that unit.

@Tester: Thanks for pointing that out! I checked it once again because I was curious why I thought that the quality was better after turning that option on... It seems that just by entering the menu and exiting makes the image "wobbly" for a 5-6 seconds and after that it looks the same whether that option is on or off. I've just interpreted the results wrong.

The ES10 and ES15 are often mentioned here for this problem. I have a Pioneer DVR- 520H and in pass through it also fixes the problem. I guess there are a number of other units, including from different manufacturers, which also address the problem.
