Why are my VHS transfers locking up?
 

lineage: JVC SR-V10U > Pinnacle 710USB > XP box > VirtualDub

This is for a home movies transfer project for my family that I'm doing of several VHS tapes. A few transferred without issues. Two broke off the spool at the beginning during initial test playback and need to be taped back on before I can attempt a transfer. The remaining few continue to lock up during transfer.

By lock up, I should say that the audio continues to transfer and I can hear it perfectly fine during playback, while the video is frozen on the last frame that transferred successfully.

I've tried transferring these problem tapes twice more but they continue to lock up (some earlier and some later than the first transfer)

Lack of frame TBC causes this exact issue. And you're fixing that. ;)

sanlyn's guide has some flaws, which I addressed in my posts there. Read those. My info overrides his.
