I purchased the clear click and have just realised that although I am importing 16.9 minidv it is transferring to usb as 4.3
any way to fix this I emailed them but they said oh no it only records in 4.3
I can't understand why they would build something that doesn't work correctly
any advice
im not really computer savvy

Buying it was a mistake. Return it.

The ClearClick is literally one of the worst capture devices out there, cheap Chinese junk that sells for a ridiculously high price. It earned the nickname "ClickCrap", not too different from Easycap aka Easycrap.

The capture is a compressed lossy mess.

Worse yet, it's not at all intended to work with DV.

Ignore Amazon reviews, good or bad, most of those people (ie, general population) are idiots when it comes to video. They'll accept horrid DIY quality (lazy bias), but would equally gripe and grouse ("scream bloody murder") if their Netflix quality was even a slight % less than sharp.

Learn how to transfer DV to computer using firewire port and ScLive program, DV is digital already it does not need a digitizer.

One step at a time.

That's the ultimate goal, but
step 1 is to return this wrong item,
step 2 is to figure out the OS being used here.

There will be more steps to arrive at the DV stream capture. (With 16x9 DV, that is the only option.)

Then use a DVD recorder, one of the few models that has DV/Firewire in, and understand the 16x9 flag. It may letterbox to 4x3, but I've never tried the feature (as 16x9 DV was somewhat rare, few ever usede it). I believe the JVC DR-M100 understands the flag. You'll have to research it.

Or just live with atrocious quality from that ClearClick, which is butchering your videos. Not at all suggested. Sometimes it takes a little effort and learning to do something. The "easy solution" is rarely quality.

A non-DIY option is to send it to somebody that knows how to properly extract the 16x9 DV streams. This task cannot avoid computers, so letting somebody else handle it is the wiser move. Return that overpriced POS, and put the funds towards this.

If you want 16:9 I'm afraid that computer is a necessary evil. You have 3 options, You can live with bad quality and wrong aspect ratio, Use a computer (a friend, family member with a computer), or send the tapes to someone who knows how to pull the data out of the tape correctly.

The reason the Clearclick is working in 4:3 because you are converting DV to analog with the camcorder, then converting it back to digital with that device, the conversion to analog works only in 4:3, Very few devices that can detect the 16:9 flag in an analog signal in the first 20 scan lines.
