VHS to digital audio dropouts?

Hi there,

First time poster so not sure if this is the right thread but I am having issues with transferring some VHS C tapes to digital. I have been using a JVC COMBO VCR- MINI DV & S-VHS VCR HR-DVS3 with a VHS C to VHS battery powered adapter and connected that to my PC using an EasyCap USB capture device (S-video and red/white composite cables for audio) I have then been recording into OBS and everything is fine however the audio randomly drops out (the spinning of the cassette sound is still there) I have tried this with a brand new VHS tape and it is doing exactly the same as well as 2 other of the same VHS players. I have tried adjusting settings within OBS, nothing so I'm not sure if the problem lies with the players themselves or if the capture device is to blame. I don't have a remote for the player and pressing various buttons on the player doesnt seem to do anything at all.

Don't know if anyone has experienced anything similar to this before when trying to transfer tapes to digital but it would be good to know how you overcame it. I am having problems now too with one of the VHS players automatically ejecting my VHS adapter but accepting the new VHS tape.

If anyone could help that would be great, at my wits end trying to figure it out haha!

OBS is the wrong tool for capturing analog tapes, Becareful when you watch youtube videos, most of them are complete BS.

Oh really? Is there another programme that you would recommend?

Correct, do not use OBS, it's stream recording software, not analog capture software.

Use VirtualDub 1.9.x
Not 1.10, not 2 -- at least not yet.

Thanks guys, I have installed VirtualDub 1.9.x however when I try to capture media through that I am met with a black screen. My USB capture card is connected and selected however I am not seeing anything. Any ideas?

Make sure the input is right, S-Video vs composite, If you don't have the option to change the input look up crossbar thing and install it.

Managed to get it working, thanks so much for suggesting Virtualdub!
