Panasonic AG1980 caps issue?

Panasonic AG1980 caps issue if so any idea where? There seems to be some very off chroma issues possibly with the video. Separate red, blue and green lines running though the video my JVC VCRs do not replicate this.

Caps issue. :(

Where is probably "everywhere". It's never one cap fail that causes AG-1980 failure.

That is unfortunate too bade Panasonic could not revive these machine and source the caps from Japan this time. I will get them all replaced if I have too.

There are older threads on the AG-1980 cap issue, worth reading. They even include parts lists.

Mainly SDM electrolytics. They exist throughout the machine, but the more critical are found on the Y/C circuit board assembly. That is a good place to start, but you will likely encounter some on other boards as well. Another common issue is dim panel lights.

FWIW: DIY repair requires PC board repair skills and tools including dealing with SMD components.

The bad cap issue was wide spread and infected many motherboards and other gear from that era as well. Rumored to be the result of failed industrial espionage; someone stole the wrong formula for capacitor electrolyte.:smack:

Send to Deter

Where did the deck come from? Note that both Deter and TGrant have stringent requirements for decks now, and will reject based on several factors.

Due to the vast number of electronic illiterates trying to DIY repair decks in the 2020s, and breaking said decks worse, Deter rejects anything that isn't factory failing (caps, head wear, etc). So if you bought some POS off eBay, good luck with that. Odds are, it's a botch DIY repair job by an idiot.

As some may know, I taught Deter everything I knew about Panasonic decks about a decade ago. And then he kept going, eventually (somewhat) surpassing my knowledge of the decks. In more recent years, he now fully replaces all caps, unlike TGrant. He's now repaired multiple decks for me.
