Rounded corners on VHS capture

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

So I finally started on my video conversion project for my extended family. My setup (thanks to LordSmurf) is:

JVC SR-MV45 (TBC on) -> Com World CMD-1200 -> AIW 8500 (captured to AVI using MMC 9.02).

Test captures of a commercial tape looks good except for a few lines of what I think is head-switching noise at the bottom (also seen on the photo below). I've run into family tapes that occasionally have rounded corners on the right side (see below) and a color band on the left side. Do you all think this an artifact of the source tape (recorded 35+ years ago on a what I recall being something like a Panasonic PV-320D camcorder or something similar)?

Just curious as I'm trying to make sure my setup is working right before I start mass-capture of my families home videos. Thanks!

The black corner sections are often due to the camera's circular lens hood slightly cropping the picture as in your still, normally when the camera's zoom lens is at maximum wide angle.

That's either a wide angle camera lens filter (likely), or the lens hood (less likely here).

Thanks everyone for the help. Starting to mass-capture our family videos for editing and distribution (to family) next!
