Digital Content on Hi8 Tape, Transfer or Capture?

I am using a Sony DCR-TRV330. I also have a ATI 600 USB.

I have some Hi8 tapes with digital video on them.

Is there any need to capture these tapes in VirtualDub, Huffyuv, through the ATI capture device? Or do I simply just do a digital transfer through firewire and WinDV?

Digital transfer via WinDV, but I prefer Sclive.
