I think I should make my point and then you can close the thread.
I find you calling me a ‘Karen’ a ‘snowflake’ and a ‘he’ all very insightful purely because I picked you up on being ill mannered.
In the first post I mearly missed off the A, in RCA (annoying i know!) however RCA was quoted in the workflow. I’d say it’s quite obvious when talking about audio I meant RCA.
I feel it’s rather critical to pinpoint this as a huge issue.

BMD was an abbreviation after listing “Black Magic Design Ultra HD studio” Again, pretty critical and pedantic.

I thought good etiquette was to be polite and courteous face to face as well as online. Maybe it’s different in the US. I can see that I am not the only one who has made you disgruntled for simply picking you up on your lack of manner.

I appreciate that you are both very knowledgeable in these areas however platforms like this are meant to be approachable to novices.

Lastly, one of you kindly sent me a private message with recommended Frame TBCs which I was grateful for and thanked you, but you continue to say you don’t know what I want in the thread.

I hope that perhaps others are not treated with such an abrupt attitude.

But I was not referring to you at all! Just making a general comment on society at large. ie "We live in a world..." and then telling a recent story about somebody else entirely, some crazy random person that called me on the phone. Although, seriously, it's almost making my point here. The technical Q&A should not take back seat to feigned indignation.

But we are approachable, and we are friendly! :D

You/others ask questions, I/others answer. I've done it for 25+ years now online. Many others have also done for it many years.

But when we ask questions, answer them. Otherwise the conversation cannot move forward.

Who, where?

That's because we don't know.

What is an RC? is now cleared up, misspelled "RCA". However, that now creates new questions about a confusing workflow. Again, RCA is not video. Do you mean "composite", the yellow wire? I asked that previously as well here in the thread, no acknowledgement of it.

Then you referred to a "one", but I'm still not sure what that "one" is.

However, it's all somewhat moot. This is likely the correct answer:

So you need a TBC. Not just any random TBC, but specific models to match your need. If you want to futher discuss this, you have my PM, or you can post questions here in the thread. :)

I downloaded the video, and the audio has severe stuttering and echoing.

Does the audio sound ok straight from the VCR? (Piped directly to analog headphones or speakers, not through the BlackMagic or Thunderbolt.)

Ah, we can see it now! It had been "accessed denied" before. Yep, that audio is awful.

I'm still betting lack of TBC. These BM (BMD) cards are so fragile and touchy. It could be something else, but the lack of TBC will be a problem regardless. This is a known known.

Thanks for your help.

The audio is coming straight from the vcr into black magic box.
Audio out is dual RCA to dual 1/4" jack into black magic ultra studio HD.

When playing the tape it sounds perfect. The interference is only on the digitised file.

I am still using scart for the video however you suggest using S-video. Would changing this have any positive affect on the audio do you think?

I add that I am successfully digitising many VHS without this problem. I am encountering audio lag delays on all which I can rectify so not that worried about that… but, perhaps getting to the bottom of the above awful sound would help with the lag? Certainly a frame tbc would help with the lag I imagine.

Thanks again.

lordsmurf 03-15-2024 03:14 PM

"Lag" usually means audio sync, and TBC generally fixes that. But I think you have compounded issues here, with repeated audio, and stuttering audio. So it's more than mere TBC. Driver issues? Mac issues? There's still a lot of unknowns here, and it really is so bad that "start over" is the best advice. So a TBC, better card, etc.
