Worthwhile PAL setup under 500 euro?
I'm looking for a viable setup for digitizing VHS and VHS-C, along with an old camcorder which might have some footage. This seems to be a very daunting task, which I require some help with. I might also want to digitize Digital8 and MiniDV, Video8 and Hi8.
I'm not sure how many tapes I have but likely quite a bit, and I would like to help my friends and family digitize aswell, so there will be quite a bit of tapes of varying runtime, with and without audio. I started researching all of this yesterday, so bear with me if my terminology is incorrect, also please do explain thoroughly as I do want to understand. I should state English is not my first language, but I do understand most things. All items should be PAL compatible as I live in EU/Denmark. Preferably I would like a setup that is Mac compatible. Basically, I'm looking for an all-in-one solution, that can digitize a lot of things "good enough". I don't need perfect as I understand the price of this will be outside my budget. I hope to spend around 300-500 Euro (330-550 USD). As far as I've gathered, I need to get the following: VCR (I have found a Philips VR 1100 and a Panasonic NV-HS950 which is within my budget) Deck/camcorder TBC The Philips VCR I've found comes with 1 year warranty and is 320 Euro (350 USD), the Panasonic comes without warranty and is 210 Euro (220 USD). My questions are: Is all the above reasonable and within budget? Do you know where I can find a deck/camcorder and TBC in the EU, and any recommendations that are available? |

Hello Lordsmurf, thank you so much for the reply I’ve read some of your posts trying to figure out what I need, so you’ve already been very helpful.
I have some follow up questions regarding the info you have provided me with. How much would I need to fork over for a decent setup? Windows is definitely also an option, I didn’t believe Mac was an option but wanted to shoot my shot. I’m definitely not competent enough for this job, which is why I was hoping for help from someone like yourself I will check up on VCR shop, and what I read between the lines are “do not buy secondhand”, is that correct? Because I have been looking through EBay for the VCR. Again, thank you for your time, it’s very much appreciated! |
