Windows 8.1 for ATI Wonder 600 USB?
Hello everyone.
This seems like the place to be for the questions I have. I have a pile of VHS tapes and bought a ATI Wonder 600 USB in an unsealed box. From what I have read here, Windows XP or 7 seems to be the best to capture analog. I have a work computer that has Windows 8.1 installed on it. Is there a way that I could get Windows XP or 7 installed over top of it? I get that I would have to find an ISO as it's not available anymore, but I was just wondering if Windows 8.1 in of itself is not compatible to capture VHS / 8mm Video. Can someone give me a run-down on operating system checklist so I am not wasting my time? I want to use Virtual Dub > ATI USB > I have a good VCR and Time Base corrector already, and want to complete these steps. All information I got from this forum. Appreciate any help in advance. Also I bought the forum subscription |
Windows 8 isn’t good for capture. Some people build XP systems because the best cards require XP. Your card is compatible with windows 7. Capturing is a single core task so per core speed matters. You want at least 2.8 GHZ. An ideally 720 RPM hard drive and an SSD for your OS is needed. It’s a good idea to leave the computer offline during capture.

A used W7 laptop is not very much money. $250 or thereabouts.
