HuffyUV 8-bit vs. 10-bit?
Hello
I am using AmarecTV to convert tapes to 4:2:2 (YUY2) using HuffyUV 2.1.1. Afterwards I will upscale to 1440x1080 and perhaps do some minor color adjustments When imported in Hybrid the file says 8 bit. I didn't see any option for capturing to 10 bit. How important is 10 bit for this? And what settings should I change to have 4:2:2 10 bit? |
It depends on your capture card if it samples at 10 bit or not, Even so, not much that you can see visually comparing 8bit to 10bit, Maybe it's worth capturing at 10bit when supported by the hardware if capturing broadcast materials and planning on doing heavy restoration, this is the only time where every bit counts.

I see.
My capture card is I/O GV-USB2 so perhaps it isn't possible to do more than 8 bit with it? |
Most consumer chips if not all sample at 8bit max, Which should be enough for consumer formats like VHS.
