Datavideo TBC-1000 saves money on good VCR?
First off, thanks so much for all the amazing information on this site. Really appreciate it all.
I'm considering upgrading my VHS player, which admittedly is probably really bad. It was a brand new in box Panasonic AG-VP30 when I started using it a couple years ago to transfer. After looking at all the buying recommendations, I see a lot of emphasis on models due to them having a TBC built in. So my question is, because I own a Datavideo TBC-1000, I'm assuming I can get away with a lower priced VHS player. If my thinking is correct, I would love some recommendations! If it matters, I'm transferring recordings of cable TV from the 90s. |
Hm, from my understanding that DataVideo should work quite well for preventing dropped frames, audio sync issues and overall keep your capture card from throwing a hissy fit. Depends on the condition itself, I've heard they are breaking down as of late.
Basically it'd work great as a frame TBC, one that corrects the signal so that a capture card can capture the feed smoothly. Those VCR (and Sony camcorder) models have a built in line TBC, that corrects visual noise, cleans up the image and keep the image straight, preventing those wobbly lines. If you can't get your hands on a model that has a built in line TBC, then a DVD recorder like the Panasonic ES15 or ES10 should work, not as well (it has it's own problems) but certainly better than not using one at all. |
A frame TBC does not and should not enhance the visual picture quality, It addresses other issues as mentioned above, If your VCR has a crappy picture, it would still look crappy when adding the TBC-1000.

Ahh, didn't understand the 2 different types of TBCs. In any event, I was able to upgrade my Panasonic AG-VP30 player to a Panasonic AG-1960. While I know this doesn't have a line TBC, i'm hoping this will at least be an upgrade over my current player.
Don't have the new player yet, and maybe it doesn't work. Company told me it was operational and has been in storage for 10 years. Only paid $50, so will see. |
