Record contents of VHS

Hello,
I own a VHS which is considered 'lost media' and I'd like to recover it and back it up digitally and publish it to the world. The VHS is "Dr. Cravin's formula for great storytelling presented by Domino's Pizza" It is indexed on the lost media wiki as "lost" and there is apparently only "2 confirmed in existence" it seems I own the third one. I am a collector of all things Domino's related and came across this VHS. I have not opened the original casing. I use a linux computer as my main operating system so any software must be considered if it works on linux. Please help me share this VHS and help me with steps to publish it to the world I need to know: What VHS player is the best for the UK region? What VHS capturing devices are good for the UK region? What equipment/software do I need? |
I think UK uses pal right? Probably there are more knowledable people around here but I would guess a panasonic fs-200EG datavideo tbc-1000 (There is one for sale in uk ebay I have no idea who seller is I asked him a question on the unit and packing or shipping to me in Sweden and he did not reply now 1 moth later so I can't comment on the device.)
A computer running xp and an ati aiw capture card preferable core 2 cpu and sata(2) ports on the mobo, along with a soundcard I read on this forum Soundblaster is recommended no idea why when Asus seem to capture better according to reviews. If you build a vhs capture station feel free to tell about your progress accuiring hardware and knowledge (pm?) I myself started in may last year and still haven't succeeded in capturing mny first tape, although Iam only doing this on the side trying to spend less than an hour a day on average. |
If that is the only tape you plan on capturing, I would not make any kind of investment in software or hardware and instead look for a reputable service provider that can handle it for you. Because it was distributed by a corporation some larger outfits may decline on copyright grounds (even if there is no explicit notice), but someone on a smaller scale may be willing to look the other way and run it for you.

Digitizing materials for personal use is not illegal here in the US, Usually companies avoid that for an extreme measure only. If the material owner decided to publish a copyrighted material it will be on his. I'm not a lawyer, just my personal opinion.

Did some part-time work with Ritz Camera (a US photo chain) ~15 years ago when they all had YesVideo setups in-store. We would have turned away the Domino's tape, guaranteed.

Regardless of copyright law and legality I'd like to have someone here help me with the process of ripping & digitalizing this VHS. Yes we do use the PAL system in the UK (like someone before said) |
