Datavideo CTB-500 Timebase Corrector?

2 Attachment(s)
I found someone selling this Datavideo CTB-500 TBC on ebay but i couldn't find any info on the internet. Does anyone know if it's any good for capturing VHS tapes? I'm planning to pair it with a Pinnacle Moviebox-710 USB.

It doesn't seem to have S-Video output. But for the price it's okay if it only has composite video... at least for me.

This item (this eBay listing) was discussed in another thread, at least 1-2 months ago.

This is very likely a 1990s Cypress, before DataVideo made their own TBCs, before Cypress made the AVT-8710.

It's a complete gamble. I no longer see the unit on eBay, but I vaguely remember the pricing for it being insane for a, untested unknown-condition 1990s composite-only unit. In general, the 1990s Cypress composite quality sucked, very noisy. (A specific 2000s composite-only Cypress was sometimes fine, but it's nothing like the unit shown here.)

I forget where the other thread is/was, or what comments I made in it.

There's surely a reason why it still has not sold. Or more likely, it has sold, then was returned, and the seller is now trying to sell again. (ie, a reason eBay sucks. Sellers hoping for suckers to buy their broken crap. Many examples of this in the forum over the years. Eventually, somebody takes too long to return it, and they get screwed.)

Thanks for responding. I will buy it and report back in one or two weeks to say if it's any good.
