Any use of Casablanca today?
1 Attachment(s)
I found this set, which is in the picture in local estate sale in Germany (when the owner, who is the only one who knows what to do with it, dies, then it is sold, like everywhere else). I offered my price for everything in the picture and it was accepted. I will receive it in about 2 weeks.
There is a Sony EV-9000E Sony DHR-1000 VC Panasonic NV-FS200 Macro System Casablanca and all sorts of other accessories. The working condition is unknown, except that they all turns on, but I am sure I can bring back to specs at least FS200. Have no idea how good are those Sony (and is there any benefit for Hi8 deck instead of good camcorder), but at least they was not used 24/7 in studio, so at least I will get new toys :) Does anyone know what can be done with Casablanca nowadays? In the 90s it was a TOTL device, but nowadays, I think it has aesthetic value :) P.S. This particular is Casablanca Kron, invented in 2000 in accordance with Macrosystem AG history: https://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/20111007 |
I doubt it.
What did this cost? I would not have paid more than the "unknown" price for only the Panasonic NV-FS200. Nothing else there looks tempting. I've bought many lots like this, both offline and online. A few key items are kept, a few "for parts" are sold off, and the rest gets recycled or trashed. Because that's what a lot of this is: e-waste. Just random tech crap with no use, no value, and likely not even functioning. I have to remind myself why I do what I do. This isn't it. It's too easy to jump down a rabbit hole of "fiddling for fiddling's sake", and get zero video work accomplished. (As an example, that's what vhs-decode is for most people. Tinkering for the sake of tinkering, without getting back any quality results.) You have to keep yourself grounded. If your intention is to screw around with old video gear, and not use it, great, do it, have fun with it. |
Because it is complete set from Estate sale in small town in Germany with no shipping (my agent will take those personally, so +EUR 100 to bring them to me) and cosmetically they looks OK, I decided to offer EUR 500 for all. To bring them back to life even if there are more problems as simply routine mechanics service and power supply recap, my friend engineer will bring them back to life easy. If heads are shot - ok, than they are doorstop, do not worth to mess around. I bought them not because I really need them - I have Panasonic NV-HS1000 in excellent condition, NV-HS950 too and now JVC HR-S7722 from vcrshop. But FS200 worth to mess with it (and I know that mechanics well) and I do not have DV camcorder, only 2 Mini HDV, so that DV deck could be useful. And that Hi8 deck looks nice too. With TBC, Hi-Fi sound and all what there should be. My HS1000 and 950 I found in similar way and serviced. In 95% cases my experience with finding gear locally in Germany as "not working" or "in unknown condition" is positive. It is not ebay and in Germany people are usually honest, especially if they live in a small town. In most cases simply routine service and repairs (like load motor gear in K mech) is required. Casablanca is simply included, I have no intention for using that, simply curious. :)
