Bad VCR tracking caused by capture card?
4 Attachment(s)
My tapes don't have any lines across the picture when I use Vidbox on a Mac. But the same tapes on the exact same VCR+ES15 setup suddenly have tracking issues when I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950q with VirtualDub on a Vista PC. I've tried multiple tapes and it's the same on all of them. Bad tracking that cannot be fixed via the VCR settings.
What am I missing? Is this actually not a tracking issue at all but something else? Screenshots and MediaInfo of both attached. |
Not sure what's happening there but VCR tracking has absolutely nothing to do with your capture card or computer.

Even if you just think logically, if the same VCR is used in both versions, one of which has problems with the picture, and the other does not, then the problem has nothing to do with the VCR :)

Strange thread.
While 950Q is a lower-end card (though better than Easycap/Elgato), capture cards do not control VCR tracking. At very most, a bad capture card chokes on bad VCR output, but bad VCR playback is not caused by capture cards. This is purely coincidental, not causal. |
Strange indeed. I wonder if it was an RF interference issue. I finally got it to work by using a VCR that, oddly enough, appeared to have unfixable bad tracking when viewed on a TV. Might be time to get shielded cables...
