Panasonic AG-1970P black & white capture output?

I have a Panasonic AG-1970p playing ntsc tapes and have my pinnacle 710 usb set to ntsc-m with crossbar thing. I am using virtualdub 1.9.11 on Windows 10 to record. I am only getting a black and white image. I switched from s-video to composite with crossbar and it just displayed a black screen. I also have installed the dedicated drivers and of course rebooted my PC

I have also tried using OBS as well as my elcrapo capture card and all display black and white only.
Every pin on my S-video cable tests out to <2 ohms and wiggling the cable does not do anything.

However, using a $5 s video to hdmi converter outputs color picture and displays "NTSC" at the top.
The weird thing is: Both the elcrapo and the hdmi converter use their own dedicated s-video cable.. Although Ive had the elcrapo display B&W only with different players on my laptop and never figured out why.

Connecting the s-video output to a digital tv with s-video also displays B&W using the same cable that I use for the pinnacle 710 usb.

Am I missing something? I have ordered a new cable anyways, and if it doesn't work I was just planning on using an ESR tester on all the capacitors and replacing ones with high esr or under capacitance.

Just realized this is in the entirely wrong place, this is meant for Capture, Record, Transfer. Moved. -LS

Are you sure the s-video cable is seated properly. What you report is a common issue with "fat header" cables, which prevent full proper seating in the cable slots.

ie, why Monster cables are terrible, and those like them.

FWIW I have a Panasonic AG-1970p connected via S-Video to a GV-USB2 and am using OBS, color is fine. I have however noticed that if the driver on the GV-USB2 is not set correctly to NTSC_M it will produce a B&W image.

What cable/cable brand do you recommend? I actually just bought a monster cable before making that post.... :smack: Saved me from possibly wasting my time recapping atleast.

Cheap s-video cables can be quite fine.

Right not, I see (supposedly) legit C2G cables on Amazon: https://amzn.to/47N3EW5
But only buy C2G (Cables2Go) from C2G or "Shipper / Seller = Amazon.com"
Buy those.
