ATI vs. Pinnacle capture cards?

Good Evening,

I am still in the hardware gathering phase for my capture project and looking for some more recent input from the forum for a capture device. I've spend countless hours debating and am just going in circles at this point. My goal is to help my dad with capturing the family's Hi8 and VHS tapes. We are not going for archival status, but I would like to have better quality than the cheap Amazon stuff. I like to tinker and this has been fun so far (I know, Dangerous Words).

Here is what my setup is thus far based on what I have compiled from this forum:

-JVC HR-S3800U for VHS
-Hi8 Camcorder (currently a mono Cannon model but actively trying to upgrade to a stereo Sony)
-Panasonic DMR-ES15
-A Windows 7 64 bit computer (Intel I3 processor)
-No internet
-No USB Hubs
-OS on dedicated drive and a secondary drive installed
-Only using onboard graphics card

I'm getting ready to purchase a capture card but not quite sure what direction to go. Since I'm running Windows 7 for this project, I believe I am mostly limited to USB devices and it seems the ATI 600 USB would be the preferred capture device, but I have not been able to locate a complete one.

I just started looking into the Pinnacle devices (510/710) but have seen somewhat of a mixed bag on them. I'm leaning toward the 710, but is there anything I am not considering or overlooking? Looking around, it appear both the 510 and 710 can both be found new in package. Anyone still using either of these?

Thanks!

Yes, Amazon/eBay is all Temu/Aliexpress-quality junk. This is precisely why I have capture cards in the marketplace. No mystery, no guesswork. Mostly specific ATI, and specific Pinnacle, known for quality of image and usage.

This is a decent combination. It's not archival, but it's not terrible either. For your desires, it's fine.

Perfect.

Correct. Win7 mostly USB, ATI 600 USB hard to find complete and working properly (ie, not just "working").

The mixed bag is because there are mixed versions. It's not as easy as "add to cart" and done. Again, that's why I have cards in the marketplace. Capture cards shouldn't be this hard, but it is, so I attempt to correct that.
