Seeing black-and-white on tape transfer?
Hi :)
My capture chain (for PAL): JVC-S7611 --> TBC-1000 --> ATI AIW 9600 --> Turtle Beach for audio -- Connection between AIW and Turtle Beach card is the internal AUX connection. Software: VirtualDub on a Windows XP. For the most part the VHS tapes transfer fine but some captures have a tendency to all of a sudden go black/white. I find that if I turn off and on the TBC-1000 the color comes back immediately. If that is a sign that the TBC is bad I do not know, but as I mentioned, almost all tapes capture just fine and with no frame drops as you would expect from the TBC. Right now I am capturing the same tape for the 3rd time I believe and the black/white is sporadic at different times. It also seems that it is a one time occurrence for the tape, so if I am quick enough I can turn off/on the TBC and not lose too much of the capture, but in other instances I see it to late (preview in VirtualDub) and I have to start all over. Any experienced advice is most welcome. Best, Chanuka |
Try different capture card first (do not mess with particular PC by replacing AIW, it could be PITA to bring it back to particular AIW if card is OK). Try Pinnacle 510 or 710 USB and look what happens. Anyway it is a good idea to have more than one capture card. LS may help I am sure.

The TBC wiring is probably bad. The TBC-1000 front panel is infamous for it. This requires bypass modding.
I need to see images of the unit internals. Some I can bypass, some not. (When not, contact Diopter_Doctor. And if D_D has to fix it, then I would also get it recapped + modded. But we're not there yet.) |
Thanks guys. I can try to open up the tbc and take some pictures of the internals. It's just strange how it seemingly follows some tapes only. I thought thought it could perhaps be the tape which provoked the black/white switch.
