Panasonic NV-HS950 vs. JVC HR-7600EU
 

Hello,

I have a Panasonic NV-HS950 for capturing.

I currently have the opportunity to purchase a JVC HR-7600EU for €350.

Firstly, is this a good price? Secondly, how does it compare to the Panasonic NV-HS950?

My video recorder for playback (Sony SLV-650) broke down a while ago, so I'm even considering buying this JVC, which I could then use for capturing if the Panasonic once breaks down. Would that make sense?

The JVC has less that could go wrong with it (it is less complex) outside of the dynamic drums that like to go bad, so you might avoid the Panasonic if you want less maintenance unless it has already been appropriately refurbished.

Perhaps we misunderstood each other. I have a Panasonic and it works well for now.

However, my secondary video recorder, which I used only for playing on TV, has broken down. Now I'm thinking—if €350 is a good price, I might buy a JVC, which could later serve as my primary device for capturing if something goes wrong with the Panasonic.

Yeah, I definitely misread. JVC will produce a little different picture than the Panasonic will. If you've been curious about JVC machines and that one works well, probably worth it if you need multiple machines in your setup and especially if there's any sort of warranty if it has any issues which you'll probably notice pretty quickly if it is going to have problems.

I use both of these as primary capture decks. The view on the 950 was that it oversharpens but this seems to be mitigated by using EDIT mode. I tend to prefer the Panasonics overall, the JVC for me even with EDIT picture mode just seems softer but I'm only a newbie at this game.

Most of my tapes are camcorder tapes or dubbed from camcorder tapes to VHS - in most cases Panasonic is fine, other scenarios with poor signal only the JVC can make a good job of it.

The Panasonic 950 is the successor to the Panasonic 1000, and the same should apply to it as in this forum post.

I have 2x FS200, 1x1000 and 2x950 (I do not need 2x 950, I got second one when bought a lot of gear in original box with original accessories). And 2x JVC HR-S7711 + JVC HR-S7722 from VCR shop I bought as reference deck because some time ago I had no experience with JVC at all. I believe you need at least 2x FS200 and 2x 77xx series JVC as main decks + 1000 and 950 as secondary. 950 is really brilliant at latest S-VHS tapes, but for most old VHS it is too sharp. FS200 is closest to JVC, 1000 is sharper and 950 is sharpest. But you need them all if you are serious :)

Are you assuming edit mode is on on the 950 for that assessment? Is there a noticeable difference between x600 and x700 range of jvcs? I had a 7860 but thought it was lower build quality than 7600

I can not tell about difference between JVCs because I have experience only with 77xx series (I follow LS advice). I can tell only technically all 77xx are the same, 7711 is black and has grey display (the same green under tinted glass) and 7722 is silver with green display. They all performs exactly the same and all schematics are the same. For 950, I do not use edit mode (I never use edit mode). If you need adjust sharpness in real time you can do it on TBC, for example. But you need them all to compare and decide what is better for particular tape. At least one decent JVC and 2 Panasonic (FS200 and 1000 + 950). I decided to sell 7722 from VCRshop because I do not need it any more (I got 2x7711 in Germany, serviced them and compared with that 7722 (with recapped PS)) and 950 (with recapped PS and serviced transport in original box with accessories). At least I know my suspicions about difference between 7711 and 7722 is correct:

2000: JVC HR-S7711 | mit TBC (Gehäusefarbe schwarz)
2000: JVC HR-S7722 | mit TBC (Gehäusefarbe Silber)
