Wow, 2008? I'm amazed that you're such a relative video newbie. I never would have guessed. I was shooting with family gear in the 80s, my own in the 90s to now. VHS, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, DV, then tape-less digital (DSLRs, then mirrorless). I wish we'd have gone with Video8, Hi8, Digital8 last century. Our videos would be better quality now. I still have all of our and my cameras.

True or not, I always believed that Digital8 was technically "better" than MiniDV overall, but lost out due to the cameras themselves not being good enough and also not keeping pace with MiniDV advancements, especially Canon's.

Update!

It turns out the client had initially came in with their own camera. Because we never expected this to be digital 8, we told them that we had our equipment already. So, after I created this thread and discovered it was Digi8, they recontacted the client to see if we could borrow their camera after all. It took a little while but they finally came back with it and SURE ENOUGH, it was Digital 8!

Their camera is a Sony DCR-TRV240 NTSC. Plugged in the battery, power, firewire and put in the tape. Launched Scenalyzer Live and BAM! Image! Too bad that they want their camera back.

Still, thanks to everyone that replied. Stupid format that can't be recognized unless you put it in a camera. >.<

D8 camcorders are available online at decent prices if you don't mind the analog playback capability, Otherwise they are a little pricy when it comes to analog playback feature capability.
