Capturing at 352x480-Distorted Video?

I've been doing a lot of reading on the best resolution for VHS capture. It appears that common consensus on this site is that 352x480 is the best for consumer tapes like VHS, Hi8, and ßeta. So, naturally, I tried capturing at this resolution, and the picture comes out distorted and squished. Am I doing something wrong? My guess is that the pixel size isn't correct, but I haven't found any pixel size options that make the video come out to a proper 4:3 aspect ratio. Capping at Full D1/720x480 comes at looking closer to 4:3, but looks just a little bit wider than 4:3. Would it be fixed if I burnt it to DVD?

I've included an example. For some reason, the audio came out kinda wonky and out of phase. I haven't had this happen to me before, and when I converted it just a couple days ago, it sounded fine. I guess that's another problem for another day, or thread.
