Should I use a Canopus ADVC-55 or ATI x800 ?
For recording my Nintendo NES system I was using an ATI x800 series video card and it works great , all dialed in thanks to Lord Smurf .
I picked up a Canopus ADVC-55 thinking it was better than my ATI video card . But its become a headache having to capture AVI files with virtualdub and then process it , theres huge files.....and I still don't have it dialed in right , the output video is in SLow Motion . I'm thinking sell the Canopus and just use the ATI card . So I'm wondering in my situation recording an NES system if its worth it to use the Canopus ADVC-55 . Is the Canopus converter much better than the ATI card once its all dialed in ? So far it doesn't look that much better . |
If ATI works great, why did you bother buying Canopus? I don't know what you mean by "dialed in". You're not talking about old style dial-in modems, are you?
If you want to use Canopus, don't use VirtualDub. Use WinDV. --Leonid |

I got the Canopus because I thought it might have a better Analog to Digital converter over the ATI video card . Dialed in , means I got the ATI card and MMC software all set up for recording my Nintendo NES . |
This is the one you bought, tried and re-sold, isn't it? :)
Yet another person has witnessed with myth of "high quality" DV capturing, vs better MPEG-2 and lossless methods. Excellent. |
