Which drivers for ATI All In Wonder 9800 Pro?
 

I have been through this site looking to download drivers for the ATI all in wonder 9800 pro, however I am confused as to the correct drivers to download. I have looked at this link but can't find the 9800 pro ones:

I would be grateful if someone would be kind enough to link directly to the download link for the driver files for my card.

I am just looking to do uncompressed capture with VirtualDub so only need the bare drivers. I don't want any of the extra progs etc. I have built a system running XP service pack 2 as recommended by Lordsmurf

Well I downloaded the ATI All-In-Wonder Setup (180-V01084-100).iso from the rar files. Is this the correct one for the 9800 pro as I only see the 900 series referred to with nobody mentioning the 9800 pro directly. If this is the right CD what do I need exactly since I don't even need to capture Mpeg. All I want to achieve is the best way to capture uncompressed in Virtual Dub. So just want the bare minimum that I need. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

It's the 9000-series setup CD # 180-V01084-100.

Go ahead and install ATI MMC. Trying to alter the default install will sometimes just make a mess. But you can use VirtualDub for the lossless AVI encoding instead of the ATI software. Generally speaking, ATI MMC is best for high bitrate MPEG-2 (15Mbps to 20Mbps), or DVD-Video compliant MPEG-2 (9000kbps max suggested). The 15Mbps 720x480 MPEG-2 also works well for SD Blu-ray conversion work.

Thanks for your reply Kpmedia. I thought that may be the correct version but was not sure. Anyway I have burned the image to CD and gone to install the software and am met with these options:

1) Hydravision complete edition
2)Hydravision basic edition
3) ATI control Panel
4) Multimedia drivers
5)DVD Decoder
6)DirectX
7)Multimedia Center 8.x
8)Athor Script
9)ATI Remote Wonder

For a minimal install which options are essential for my goal of capturing uncompressed with virtual dub? Should I just install number 4 and number 7? Or are any others needed. If possible I want to keep things as light as possible.

Many thanks for your reply. Out of interest what does the ATI control Panel do? I did a google for this and one person said:

"This is just so to make it easier to change you video card settings. You can access the same from the control panel, so the answer is no you do not need it."

Just wondered why you have it marked as needed?

Also you say Multimedia Center 8.x is Recommended. Is this mainly if I want to capture in Mpeg?

Once last thing I am in the UK so will be mainly working on PAL tapes. Is the driver I downloaded from the forum for PAL, NTSC or both?

That person is mistaken. It's a required install. This adds the ATI options into the Windows control panel, including the display options. You can't not install the control panels, and expect to be able to control the card's function. I have a feeling this person has confused it with the system tray task icon. Not the same. The systray icon can be disabled in msconfig (alter the startup items).

ATI MMC is good for previewing -- much better than VirtualDub. VirtualDub is better for capturing AVI, but the video preview is lousy (and small), and then you tend to drop frames if audio preview is turned on (making the video choppy). ATI MMC is also the only tool you should use for capturing MPEG files.

The ATI All-in-Wonder cards are multi-format. Same drivers for PAL, SECAM and NTSC input sources. I capture PAL all the time, with imported VCRs. :)
