VCR tracking problems or grounding issue?
 

Okay this may not be exactly in the right part of the forum, but it does have to do with capturing.
I have asked about it in Videohelp forum, but as i am not that good with this, and none seem to have the same or close version as me, i couldn´t get that much help.

So will ask here and show some picture.

The problem is:

I get Black stripes here and there from time to time, and along with that i can get frame issue, like half screen jitter, dropped frame or alike.

Jagabo (knowledgeable videohelp member), thinks it may be a grounding issue between the drum assembly and the PCB.

But i can´t find where the grounding is made so i can´t fix it.

I'd have to see a sample image.

I'd also need to know what brand of VCR this is.
- If Panasonic, then it may be bad capacitors causing it.
- If JVC, then it may be debris or damage on the drums.

I think those two scenarios are far more likely that grounding issues, based on available information.

I cleaned it later with isopropyl 99.5%, and did a test, and it still gave black bars, but it´s only on some occasions it seems.
Not sure what to make of it, and some of them are placed at the Exact same place Twice, while it may have more or less black stripes along with it.

what make and model VCR are we dealing with here?

Sharp: VCFH30SM (think the SM can change, but they are all the same, PAL version).

You're essentially having issues with a low-end consumer VCR. Most of them are shielded like crap, and such problems are almost to be expected.
While Sharp is one of the better VHS VCRs, it's not without its issues. Again, low-end consumer goods.

Not sure if it´s the VCR anymore, as another had the same problem, with the same tapes, i think it´s the tapes(2).
Though i haven´t tried the one which had audio problems as i can´t find it (moved recently).

But i can understand that the low-end is not something to bet on.

Though, the weird thing is, some black stripes are at the same place, while others can differ, i can´t find a logical explanation to that though;S

But it can be the tapes bad condition or something i guess?

The logic is not so difficult. Tape can be bad in many ways. There is physical wear and scratches, weakening of the signal, burned in errors. All this together, with the capabilities of the VCR will produce a nice mix. Different VCRs will cope with each error differently. The same VCR model will have different response to bad tape depending how well it's maintained, cleaned and the age of the video heads.

For the random errors, you could try averaging multiple captures. It's slower process but will cancel out the randomness.
