Is the Hauppauge USB live2 USB card decent?

My intention is to capture VHS to HuffYUV and eventually to MPEG2 for DVD burning, but I need a USB or Firewire based device.

It seems like the only USB capture card recommendation I can find on here is for the old ATI 600 USB devices. I'm just wondering if any of the "newer" USB cards (Hauppauge USB Live 2) are as good as the old, highly recommended ATI 600?

Is there anything inherently different about these USB capture devices?

Also, just to throw in the wildcard, I had also been considering the Canopus ADVC-110. But after reading here about colorspaces, I thought it might be best to go to lossless AVI as the first step instead of DV. But, to the average viewer of home videos on VHS, can you really see much of a difference going from VHS -> DV -> DVD vs. VHS -> huffYUV -> DVD?

I would s till go with the ATI 600 USB.
VHS -> Huffyuv -> DVD is still the best workflow for quality even for the average viewer.
For NTSC: VHS is 4:2:2, DV is 4:1:1 and DVD is 4:2:0 (You lose 1/2 the color space going from VHS to DV here)
For PAL: VHS is 4:2:2, DV is 4:2:0 and DVD is 4:2:0
So unless you are using PAL, which wouldn't be a big issue, I would go with Huffyuv.

i am experiencing a similar dilemna. I don't want to purchase the ati 600 usb because I would have to purchase it used when I can purchase the Hauppauge USB Live 2 new from amazon.ca. Also, I have read issues online where users have had issues installing drivers fro the ati 600 usb driver in windows 7/8.0. Also the ati 600 usb card is discontinued.

My hesitation for purchasing the Hauppauge USB Live 2 is there are many negative reviews on amazon.ca and this website in regards to this card. I read that it stops capturing after 30-40 minutes (which might not be an issue if I get the AV Toolbox AVT-8710 Multi-Standard Time Base Corrector) Any more info from the Pros on whether I really shouldn't purchase the Hauppauge USB Live 2 ?
