Currently I have a DAC-100 and capture via 1394. Is there an advantage to capturing with DV RaptureRT or a Matrox capture card?

Thanks

You're talking the difference between a consumer card and professional cards (which, yes, can do much more).

Now, whether you need pro options is another question. What kind of work are you wanting to do, and how much money are you willing to spend?

Also, be sure you put in money on good playback equipment (VCR, TBC) before jumping to higher pro cards.

Im not sure I am capturing with a card now. The DAC-100 is an analog converter. I capture with Let's Edit Software.

I just ordered a JVC HRS-9900 (thanks to your forum)

The DAC is a DV capture device. It captures analog material and makes it digital.

It's limited to DV-only input. It's not like an ATI card (for example), that can capture with any native AVI codec or even MPEG directly.

I have a Matrox card on my wish list, but I'd use the MPEG capture for quick projects, and the DV capture with realtime editing/output for more advanced work. I want to do that in the future, early next year I think.
