AMD ATI X600 Pro 256mb and ATI Media Center 8.7

Hello,
I have recently acquired a an AMD ATI X600 Pro 256Mb PCIe card with all the cables and connection etc. Is it possible to use ATI multimedia Center 8.7 for this card? I'm interested in the "Video Soap" function? Is it necessary? I'm capturing VHS to lossless AVI.

I have a Windows 7 32 bit sysytem. Thanks!!

nope - you'll need a newer version of MMC for the PCI-E cards which doesn't have videosoap

Ok. So what cards (From the ATI PCI family) are considered safe to use on ATI MMC 8.7? Should I just forget the video soap all together?

the AGP cards all work with 8.7
none of the PCI-E cards will.
the is 1 regular PCI card - the 7500 VE that works with 8.7

Is the 7500 compatible with win7 32?

volksjager 02-22-2014 02:54 PM

no all-in-wonder card officially supports windows 7
(LS has gotten it to work but says he cant consistently reproduce it)
and IIRC he used the later version of MMC anyway
you are best off using XP SP2 of which i know the 7500 VE works with
if you go the 7500 route make sure you get the VE edition if you want PCI
normal 7500's are AGP

Ok. It seems that if I really want to fully benefit from a good capture, I have to "freeze" that technology in time because it's not going to work with more modern measures? I was exploring the x600 because it had the theater 200 chip and it would be an upgrade to my motherboard-driven graphics card. This way I could have dedicated video memory for various computer purposes. I just don't have an Win XP system anymore. It looks like the ATI 600 USB wins......Again.

the 7500 VE has the theater 200 chip as well - i have one here
just take an extra hard drive and install XP on it.
you can download XP SP2 from any torrent site
7 holds no real benefit for capturing

It sounds easy. But that would entail a separate system or connecting another hard drive on my current system and then changing the boot sequence at startup? Wouldn't there be any hardware issues?

volksjager 02-23-2014 07:00 AM

a 2nd computer just for capture is the best thing to do.
i have a 8 core AMD as my general use PC and a Pentium 4 PC used solely for capture
you can pick up old P4's for next to nothing(or even free)

i dont really recommend it but you could get by with 1
either by doing a dual boot install, or by having 2 separate hard drives each with a different OS and hitting the boot menu key a startup and selecting which drive to boot off

My main computer is an awesome Window 7 box. But for capturing I use a Windows XP SP2 system. The computers have a $200 DVI KVM, so only one mouse, keyboard, monitor. You can do the same with speakers, but I prefer separate ones.

Dual booting just never works well. Don't bother.

I'm going to try the Windows & ATI AIW setup again here in a few days. I just need to get un-busy with the thing I;m busy with right now. (I'm still playing catch-up from 2013, my lost year.)

Ok. Thanks let me know how it goes
