Is this normal for a TBC-1000? Lines in the JVC menu?

Notice the moire and also the lines that seem to run vertically maybe a half-centimeter from the CH letters.

As I recall, that's a characteristic of many JVC VCR menus, not the TBC-1000.

it seems this has previously been talked about:

That's not moire.

It's an artifact caused by a combination of factors, and is usually visible on some JVC menus. Not all, just some. When the video itself is played, the error will no longer exist. The issue starts in the TBC-100, but is amplified by the VP-299. It's a signal issue, and starts with the generated menu of the VCR.

The checkerboard issue from VH is something else entirely. I've seen that in many devices, including the AVT-8710. It a fault, and a reset usually corrects it. If reset does not fix it, then the device is faulty.

So all things being equal, this error does not persist into playback?

Lordsmurf has the right take on this problem. I always saw the same menu effect on my 7600's, tbc or no tbc. But not during play. When my AVT did that occasionally through its s-video output I'd just power down and up again, as prescribed. The AVT can just get cranky at times.
