ATI AIW cards with defective shielding from factory?
I've long suspected my ATI AIW 9600XT of this defect, (Bought on E-bay in 2010, "Un-used",came with break-out cables/ Install CD and all). I'm looking to find another one as a back-up/replacement card. Wondering if anyone knows which model #'s to possibly avoid?...I searched these forums "ATI AIW shielding" and found an excellent reply from Lordsmurf to my same question back about 2013, Which mentioned it could be anything from the card itself, or the PC components, the power, the location (RF interference),cables,etc..I tried moving my Capture PC away from my other PC, and installed snap-on coils (Ferrite coils) on all cables from Capture PC with ATI card, with some success. So should I find another 9600XT, or look for a similar model?..(9500,9600,9700,9800)?

The 9600 is known for this. It can happen.
It's not common, however. And it's often other more-likely issues in the computer itself, or even in the local environment outside the computer (home, office). Power supplies and certain motherboards can cause it. Impure electricity is also guilty -- and it's sometimes caused by a faulty UPS! |
