New flagging/tearing VHS fix without DNR!

Figured I would share that I purchased an EH59 from BHPhoto recently and on passthrough it fixes flagging. It has an excellent comb filter that is optional and fixes flagging. DNR can be turned on or off, and it works pretty decently but I like to denoise in software. Figured I would share!

Panasonic DNR is notoriously smeary, so I'd be surprised if this unit was any better.

Having more options for passthrough decks as always nice. :)

I guess that's something else I need to update. What do you think -- should it be added to the TBC thread? I think so.
After years of trying, I've finally defined all TBCs (and "TBCs").
This would be one of the weaker special-use types.

The manual states that it's only optional for PAL content. (Comb filters for PAL operate quite differently.) I assume choosing "Off" changes it from 3D to 2D mode, since literally disabling the comb filter would be a very bad thing.

The setting is fixed with “On” if you set “TV System” to “NTSC”

[On]     Pictures become clear and vivid. Normally, use this setting.

After he did some measuring, it appears the EH59 has two blanking lines at the top of the image and the blacks are slightly elevated for HDD/DVD recordings (not sure if that means brighter or darker). Comparing to how the tape I used with it played without it, I was happy with how it performed.
