Any good VirtualDub alternatives?
It seems virtualdub is everyone who isnt using DV uses virtualdub. Are there acceptable alternatives out there?

Not really.
WinDV used to have Scenalyzer as competition, but it's defunct. We've archived both on the forum. The former was freeware, and the latter way payware (now abandonware). VirtualDub had iuVCR, but it never developed beyond rudimentary capturing tools. It was made before Windows XP even existed, and was mostly a hobby project for use with ancient BT chipsets (which were very blah). NLEs and all-in-one consumer software will often capture, but it's generally pitiful to work with. Aside from that, you have card-specific software: ATI MMC, Hauppauge WinTV, etc. Those tended to be decent. Do NOT confuse them were the cheapware includes, such as the awful WinDVR, PowerVCR, neoDVD, etc. I don't really count the OS includes, like Windows Media Center, as they rarely worked and had pathetic hardware support. |
As far as capturing is concerned you could try Christv PVR (shareware). It was kind of buggy at first but i think it has improved over the years
