What type of 'compression' does VHS have?
 

VHS being tape does not have compression in the digital sense, but I am curious to know when filming live video what is actually lost or being thrown away to record onto the tape. I am aware and have been witness to generational degradation but I am wondering what goes missing when recording onto a first generation tape.
