Did I get a genuine AVT-8710 TBC?
 

I bought a AVT-8710 black model from ebay because I couldn't resist the price but wasn't sure if it's a clone or not so I posted some pictures for someone who's familiar with them to take a look and tell me what I got:

Black AVT-8710 are genuine post-2011 units, yes. But many (most? all?) have flawed chipsets. I don't what Cypress was thinking, and why they've not fixed it. As recently as last year (2015), members here were reporting problems with new units. However, I'm not sure of manufacture.

I need to contact Cypress again. They were responsive last month, on questions about power supply variations. Not necessarily helpful ... just responsive.
