Need basic but good NTSC VHS player

Dear Sirs

I occasionally need to play an NTSC tape ( converting for customers ).
Right now i use a PAL player with "NTSC playback, NTSC on PAL". However this cannot be captured directly by the capture card ( Hauppauge USB2 Live ) even though I set it to NTSC capture. It works if i run the signal through my Samsung combo DVD-recorder/VHS-player. But not in good quality.

I am looking for a real NTSC only player. It is difficult to find in Europe, and I cannot on Ebay search in US only, so not easy to locate on ebay from here, unless I know the exact model no. to search for.

I have seen the "buying guide" lists on this page. But it does not need to be high end models with TBC because they tend to be expensive (and sometimes very used). Super VHS would be nice, but not necessary. A basic model will be OK. The most important is few running hours and that it is as new as possible (after 2000 or later).

Could you recommend some basic late Panasonic og JVC NTSC models to look for on ebay?

Or maybe a place in Europe to buy a real NTSC player.

Most JVC US models end with the letter U, I have a Toshiba VHS only that is true Multistandard, It doesn't convert between formats, that I will be selling but not now as I'm busy taking care of some stuff. The problem of buying from the US is the shipping is expensive. Where do you live I can help you with the search.

I live in Denmark, I have tried to search the specific U models mentioned in the buying guide, but they are few and expensive. And from the PAL models in Europe I have experienced it is difficult to get a good high end model with TBC. Many seems to "circulate" on ebay, being worn out or having minor errors, or just beeing plain defect. Just bought two NV-HS1000 which I had to sell again as defect for 1/3 of the price.

"Plain" models is much easier to get in good shape. I cannot just search the "U" models, I can only search specific numbers which I do not know. I cannot limit the search to USA only to "world" if I want US included.
Search for "NTSC Videorecorder" only gives a lot from Europe that claims to be NTSC but is "NTSC on PAL" meaning not real NTSC.

This is why I am looking for a list of some of the newest NTSC models of Panasonic and JVC, also low end models without TBC and maybe even without Super VHS. Low running hours and young age is most important. Maybe I could even find one in Europe, saving some freight and import tax.

Toshiba true Multistandard could also be interesting, but I do not really need that because I allready have some good PAL units.

Just found this thread,

But would still like to receive other suggestions

set your capture card to pal60, maybe your software can't deal with that, try virtualdub or dscaler

pal60? What? I had to read about it here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL

It seems that the "NTSC on PAL" VCR outputs a modified PAL signal called "Pal 60". This could be a good tip. I use Hauppauge USB Live 2 and Pinnacle 11 software, I will check tomorrow if I can capture in "Pal 60". Do you know if the result is just as good as using a "real" NTSC video player?

Hello

Hi Goldwingfahrer

Thanks, but I do not really understand all this "YUY2" "UYVY" "Lagarith" "UtVideo" "Huffyuv" and other terms. And it seems hard to find an explanation in the internat that I understand. I just capture with Pinnacle in MPG2 and saves as DVD with Pinnacle or converts to deinterlaced MP4 with Handbrake.
What is you website?

It seems that just searching for one JVC "U" model on ebay brings up a lot of others. So I have found some interesting units. Seems to be many about 40-50 USD + shipping. But the idea of using a "NTSC on PAL" device for NTSC capture is still interesting, beacuse I allready have more of these units.

As far as i could tell with my Jvc's vcrs pal60/ntsc results are the same. I did comparisons with an smpte bar from a commercial tape.

sorry ... Pinnacle is a disease that can only kompr. DV-AVI capture.
Mpeg2 encoder there are also better.

PAL-60 is to capture not a good idea, one needs to have true real NTSC recorder / or Fedder.
