Panasonic DMR-ES15 vs ES15S for pass-thru?

I want to get a Panny ES-15 for the pass-thru-TBC function, but I see two near-identical models.
The ES-15 is well-known here, but the ES15S, I gather, is a slim version of the same machine. I would prefer the ES15S, but not if it has a different functionality.
Does anyone have any information?
I will post what I can find out, if I learn anything.

As far as I know, ES15 = ES15S.

The "S" indicates the bright metal finish (basically silverized plastic and metal). The black finish models were produced as ES15-K.

The ES10 is nominally more powerful and slightly cleaner for tbc pass-thru. http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3...hat-do-you-use

I have seen size (depth) anywhere from just under 10 inches to just under 14". My space is small and already packed with electronics, so I want the smaller machine, even if it's slightly beat out by the E10. So, what is the depth on the machines on hand in D-FAQ land? I also have a query into Panasonic.

Heat is your enemy. You'd better be careful to not shove a case full of gear, especially if it's wooden. Even metal rack-mounts (broadcast/studio setups) have plenty of airflow, and those are expected to run hot.

Before my health snafu, I used custom wooden racks. The key was that it had a lot of airflow, and a fan nearby to help as needed.

I just took a measuring tape to my ES10. It's about 2.5", little over, well under 3".

But I mod most of my gear with rubber feet, for airflow and stacking ability. So my ES10 is more like 4".

The ES10 and 15 should be almost identical.

Front to back depth is what I’m looking for.
The shelving is open so height isn’t an issue.

You can find the measured specs anywhere. There's this thing called Google.......

Code:

        ES10      ES15
        -------  ------=
Width  16.9 in  16.9 in
Depth  13.3 in  12.4 in
Height  2.5 in    2.3 in

I am well aware of Google, but I found three specs referring to depth, all different, for the ES15-15S. First I look, THEN I ask.

The numbers I posted are Panasonic's own specs and in agreement with what I've measured on my own (I own both units). I don't know where you found other numbers.

Don 't forget that these measurements don 't include the power cords and connection cables.

My post on the Panasonic forum...
“I am happy to be here as a new member.
I want to ask, what is the difference in the DMR-ES15 and the 15S? I am looking for pass-thru with TBC to capture tapes, I would prefer a smaller machine, so that I gather is the S slim model. But does it have the SAME functions?
Thank you,
Barry P. Gill

Anyone want to tell me what that means?! Yikes.

I get this from Panasonic for the "S" Dimensions (H x W x D)2 5/16'' x 16 15/16'' x 9 13/16''.

Yes, and Google often brings people here ... so we answer questions here. :wink2:

ES10 = 14" deep, 17" wide, 3" high.
EE15 = should be identical, only faceplate is designed to look slightly different (sloped more)

I'm not playing the 1/16th game. For example, depth of unit probably doesn't account for rear wiring. And you'll need another 2" minimum beyond the 14" to have room to plug in wires. So if you don't have 16" depth, preferably 17-18", forget it.
