S-video switching box (patch panel) for VCRs?
 

I'm trying to quickly sample video with different combinations of devices to find the best capture combination.

Examples:
JVC-S7800U to AIW 9600 Pro
JVC-S7800U to TBC-1000
JVC-S7800U to DMR-ES10
JVC-S7800U to DMR-ES10 to TBC-1000
JVC-SR-V10U to AIW 9600 Pro
JVC-SR-V10U to TBC-1000
JVC-SR-V10U to DMR-ES10
JVC-SR-V10U to DMR-ES10 to TBC-1000

Since most device outputs are on the back you'd almost always need the back of the devices available to do switching. And when working with a single tape that's potentially a lot of cable swaps. I fear damaging my s-video cables or the ports.

What's the best way to swap out devices quickly without unplugging and replugging the cables from device to device, ideally without signal loss? What do you do?

Well, Lordsmurf may cut me off for this, but I bought three of these off eBay. I use them to quickly switch around to find the best performing combination. Then, once I've settled on a plan, I take the switchbox out of the equation and hook the cables up directly from component to component.

- Use the short s-video extension cables. Coil as needed. Plug in/out of those. Monoprice has these for cheap.
- Turn the decks sideways, so you can access both sides. There is never a back.
- Never use switch boxes, those always introduce noise.

I've been doing this ever since I had to get a JVC serviced for a damaged input block some 10+ years ago.

s-video cables eventually go back. These are consumables. Have extras ready at all times, throw problem ones away. Ironically, the best cables I've ever used were the ones that came free with new JVC VCRs. I've been using some of those for 20 years now!
