Set start frame before capturing?

I was using Windows moviemaker to capture the movies from my digicam to avi files.
With moviemaker I can set the frame where the capture has to start.
Because I had problems with the sound at the beginning of the AVI I switched to Virtualdub.
Now the captures AVI's sound is ok from the start.
  • Is there a way to set the start frame before you start capturing in VirtualDub?
  • Now I open windows moviemaker, set the start frame, close moviemaker and open VirtualDub and start capturing.
  • Moviemaker also shows the video as it is shown in preview on the digicam, Virtaldub only starts previewing when you stat capturing, is there a way to show the current frame before capturing?

That's a shame. MovieMaker is one of the lowest-quality video programs and players out there. I don't know why people use it.

Sorry, no.

Not true. VDub always shows whatever comes in on the signal path whether you've started capture or not.

More importantly, why do you need to set the start frame?

You can just clip edit the capture later. Chop off unwanted beginning and end, maybe even middle, then re-save with NON-reencoding "Direct Stream Copy" mode in VirtualDub. used for editing, not capture mode.

Yes, that may take some time, but it really depends on your hardware setup (mostly HDD speeds, or SSD).
