CPU Spikes to >100% Intermittently
I've had zero problems capturing for a while now, but suddenly my CPU has decided it can't handle things.
It captures just fine for about a minute at 26% CPU usage, which is about where it used to be for the entire tape. But now, every minute or so for about 30 seconds the CPU usage goes haywire, hitting 180% at one point I think, and I get "jumps" in the capture (although 0 reported dropped frames somehow). AmarecTV, Lagarith, Windows 10. |
Anyone have any ideas?

Giving the capture application a higher process priority can be helpful, at least with Virtualdub. See e.ghere if you are not sure how do do this.
Otherwise it's standard windows stuff, like shut down any programs running in the background, check that windows defender or windows update is doing stuff while recording Also, it's been mentioned a million times on here, but just in case, don't capture to the same drive that windows is on |
I've got an external USB3 RAID0 for capture.
There does seem to be some sort of Windows Defender process happening, but not sure what it is or how to stop it. Everything else is shut down. What's strange is it's only happened recently, and came on quite suddenly. Not sure if there was a background operating system update or something that's broken whatever was working before. |
