Video capture failure: picture yes, sound no?
 

Video Capture failure. Picture, yes, Sound, no.

Am trying to capture video from a JVC Video Casette Recorder (model: HR-S6700EK). I am using Ez Grabber Version 3. I am linking the two devices with the S-Video connector (not the Standard Video option). The Ez Grabber USB lead goes into my computer. When I switch the Ez Grabber to 'record', I find the picture is captured perfectly. However I do NOT capture the sound.

What could be causing this? Is there some setting in the JVC VCR which I am missing.

(One thing: if I insert one of the three Standard Video leads from the capture device to the correct socket in the VCR the Sound is picked up perfectly on the Laptop. However IT IS NOT RECORDED.

Using VirtualDub? If so, try preview and not overlay.

Confirm VCR is fine by removing capture card as variable. That likely means plugging VCR straight into a TV.

Could you explain more. Am a pension and need to be led by the hand (a little)
I connect S-Video which enables capture of video no problem.
The sockets adjacent (red and yellow) give me sound. But the capture device does not save the sound to laptop. It only saves the video. (The sound can be heard loud and clear when recording).

What hardware capture device are you using?
What capture software are you using? We have never recommended EZ Grabber for capture.
Why aren't you using VirtualDub for capture?

Minor point perhaps but "YELLOW" is normally composite video, and sound is usually RED (right) and WHITE (left). Connecting yellow to an audio input will net a buzz (at video sync).

This VCR has only two sockets with the S-Video female socket. No white.

The white and yellow color on those connectors can some times be hard to tell apart. I would presume they're Left/right audio outputs though, european vcrs usually don't have standalone composite video connectors, but scart instead.

They are outputs certainly. The problem must be with the capture device
