PAL DVD/VHS combo as a pass-through?

What is the best known PAL DVD/VCR combo to be used as a pass-through with another S-VHS deck to capture PAL tapes via S-Video? Are strict DVD recorders with S-Video input do the same job?

I have good results with my ES35V (Panasonic VHS/DVD recorder combo, not Super-VHS) no need to use it as pass-through, has super stable video signal from any VHS tape. VHS has also output over component which you can set to YUV progressive, or RGB interlaced.

@ Eric-Jan

Again what you say it's not true and you have give the answer in a other thread here.

A TBC is just a analog to digital conversation where the converter has some special skills. During this process you get the stable signal. Now if you wish you can record this signal to the dvd part from the ES35V combo or the signal runs through an digital to analog converter for the rear outputs. If the combo would have had a hdmi output you could capture the signal without the digital to analog conversation. Without this analog to digital converter it wouldn't be possible for the dvd recorder part to capture audio/video in sync. It's quite the same as to use a dvd recorder in passthrough mode.
But not every dvd recorder use the same analog to digital converter. If you have really poor tapes with strong jitter errors nothing beat for example the Panasonic Es10.
If you buy one of the recommended svhs vcrs and one of the recommended dvd recorders you will have better results as with a combo deck.

This is a reasonable suggestion. Many other users have argued this, but Eric-Jan is very happy with their ES35V. Apparently their specific unit has SD progressive output for VHS via component cables, a magical built in TBC, and the muddiest S-Video output known to man.

True, the ES35V has a nominal line- and frame-sync tbc. Not all DVD recorders can be used for pass-thru tbc. The hobbyist world has uncovered about a handful of DVD-R's that will work along those lines, but almost all of them have only so-so tbc power. For a bad tape with serious jitter or flagging the more powerful tbc in the ES10 or ES15 will be required sooner or later. S-video via the ES10/ES15 is pretty clean, and their 3d comb filter can clear up dot crawl from composite input. ES10/ES15's also have component output.

I'm just looking for a pass-through solution to use as or close to a full frame TBC, I wouldn't replace my S-VHS deck with a combo VCR. Do the ES10 ES15 come in PAL versions?

According to this manual the DMR-ES15EB does both PAL and NTSC.

The ES35V does also both PAL and NTSC

I don't believe that we've ever confirmed the ES35 acts anything like the ES10/15.
I know the ES20/25 do not, very weak.

The component out isn't a unique features from the es35V combo. Other panasonics, pioneers, sony and a few more have this feature. The vhs part will be one of the latest panasonic recorders and this haven't been great. I think the combo haven't the strong jitter correction as the es10.

Maybe Eric-Jan could do the test.

All (Pal/Europe with scart connectors) Panasonic recorders with jitter correction like the es10 works internal with the resolution 704/576i. Later models with not so strong correction works internal with 720/576i resolution. You'll see how it works when you record it to harddisk or dvd (you must have content who have 720/576i resolution like test pattern). All analog outputs from the panasonic recorders only have the resolution of 704/576i. That's why I recommend to use the blackmagic shuttle with hdmi input. You skip the digital to analog conversation for the outputs.
