Faster encoding...

Is there something that I can do, or add to my computer that would make the encoding process in MC go faster? For a 3 hr video, it takes about 9 hrs to do, what's weird is, for a 2 hr video, it takes 3-4 hrs to do...I thought that's kinda odd
I do a lot of 3 hr videos and that 9 hr encoding time kills precious time, so can I add or replace anything to speed that up, or would I have to get a whole new computer?

Be sure all the settings are correct, such as resolution, interlace, etc. If it takes 4 hours for a 2-hour encode, it should only take 6 hours for a 3-hour encode.

Beyond that, know that CPU and hard drive speed are the two bottlenecks. RAM is barely used. Adding RAM does nothing.

You'd have to add a new high-end computer to up the encode speeds. I can get maybe 100fps MPEG-2 on my quad-core, in MainConcept. That means a 2 hour video takes maybe 45 minutes.

You can always buy more computers, and use a KVM!

"Be sure all the settings are correct, such as resolution, interlace, etc"

Do I check these settings in MC, if so, where at?

Click on some stuff and look around. There's not much to it. I want to teach folks, but I also want you to take some initiative and research/test/experiment. Play with things, look around. The computer won't explode.

A lot of this has already been covered in some of the many, many threads we've had in the past many months, going over your project.

Well...I can't look for something, unless I know what I'm looking for lol. I'm using the settings that you gave me to use before..
(When I'm encoding)
mpeg 2
elementary video
video mode- ntsc

detailed settings-
width 352
height 480
check by keep proportions
check by 2 pass encoding
frame rate 29.97
field encoding - top field first

advanced mpeg settings
frame rate - 29.97 fps ntsc, non drop frame rate
apect ratio - 4:3 display
bitrate type - variable
rate mode control - mode 1

When Not Editing Audio -
Mpeg type - mpeg 2
stream type - program video & audio
video mode - ntsc
audio mode - layer 2

Adv mpeg settings
Audio type - mpeg layer 2
bitrate - 256
(all other settings are the same as i listed above)

Does all of that look good?
