How to remove black bar from both side of video

And then what is the end goal and end format of this video?
Is it for a DVD player, or something to upload to Youtube, or something else entirely?

Sometimes you need to mask, sometimes you need to crop.
Simply saying "Here's how you remove black bars from video" may be bad advice, if done for the wrong reason/use.
Hence my questions.

I want to play video song in my mobile phone its micromax x510 its can run only mp4 avi and 3gp I'm using OJOsoft for convert. but the original file has both side black bar while its playing in PC its like dat wmv or other i want now to remove black bar from the video how could i do this

So you're wanting to remove the widescreen matte (black bars at top and bottom) -- correct?
At first I thought you had meant pillarbars on the left and right.

What you have to do is crop the video in the encoder. You'll want to chop off enough lines to make it 16:9 aspect. How many lines depends on the original resolution -- you'll want a calculator to get it accurate.

(I don't have OJOSoft, so I can't check if it does cropping for you. Because it's one of those cheap Chinese spamware tools, I don't really want to install it -- sometimes those things really screw up a system.)

You may need to pre-crop it in another program, and save out a lossless video file that can be re-encoded without any visible quality loss. Which tool can do this really depends on the source video settings. VirtualDub is a good go-to program for this, but it can't open all video sources.

Although there are surely several methods to do this, I would opt for the method that loses the least amount of quality. And for that, I would pick VirtualDub as my tool of choice, using the version found on this site (which has MP4 import filters pre-installed). You'll want the HuffYUV codec. And then the AAC codec.

Get all of that here:

... and install all of it. Reboot may be required, for HuffYUV and AAC to work correctly after install.

Then you'll need to load the video into VirtualDub, and select the "resize" filter. (Video > Filters > Add... ) You don't have to change anything, because this isn't where you'll be cropping the video. OK. Then you'll be able to pick the Cropping ... option. You'll want to crop the pixels here from top and bottom. OK.

Then go to Video > Compression and pick the HuffYUV compression. Note that this is a lossless codec, and your temporary video will be about 40GB/hour. Lossless = no quality loss due to (lack of) re-compression.

Then File > Save as AVI and wait while the video encodes. Speed will depend entirely on the source location of the file (i.e., USB2 hard drive vs internal SATA hard drive), as well as CPU and RAM.

Then you can encode this new cropped file in your OJOSoft program, to create your properly-cropped phone videos.

It's the same process as described above, but you simply crop from left and right instead of top and bottom. All other directions remained unchanged and identical.
