Can't use Huffyuv in Sony Movie Studio 12?

Has anyone successfully imported files encoded with Huffyuv into Sony Movie Studio? I'm using version 12 Platinum.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and installed Huffyuv using the "rundll32" command line instructions posted on this forum. I can capture in VirtualDub, but when I try to load it into the SMS timeline I get the little circle of no and it refuses to copy. If I select "Match media settings" when creating a project I get an error popup "An error occurred while opening a codec". I've tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Huffyuv. I have the "always suggest RGB" Huffyuv option on.

I have been able to capture and edit with Lagarith but Huffyuv seems preferred for archival.

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm stumped. That doesn't happen often. :)

If it were me, and Lagarith worked fine, I'd just use that. It's not a bad codec. It's just on those nitpick type conversations, on which is best, in the past the long term viability of Huffyuv seems more likely. But to be honest, that decreases with time. Lagarith is proving less hassle to use on some systems, so it has that working in its favor. And less hassle is an important factor.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, Lagarith is open source that anyone with a little programming knowledge can recompile, so the current version at least will live forever. I did notice that the installer sprays a lot more registry entries than the Huffyuv .inf file did. Something in there is probably the magic necessary for Sony Movie Studio that could be added to the Huffyuv .inf. But I think I'll stay with Lagarith. Painless installation will only help future adoption.

Thanks,
Jeff
