Stripping Audio from MPEG
 

Hi guys...

I extracted an episode from a DVD using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode; the episode has bad audio, but good video. I have another copy of the same episode I've also extracted in the same way, but this one has bad video with good audio. I'd like to take the audio from one and marry it with the video of the other.

How would I do this?

Tricky issue. Are you sure the running time on both versions is the same. And that any commercial breaks in the middle is the same?

You may have to demux something like this, convert the video to AVI, cnovert the audio to WAV, and drop the files on the Adobe Premiere timeline and try to line up audio by chunks. And then export the audio timeline, no need to re-encode the good video. It's AVI solely for better preview playback support in Premiere, MPEG doesn't work so hot in an NLE.

What about this...the bad audio part is just the last few seconds of the clip. It seems it would be easier to demux and match just that portion.

So, what do I use to demux that will preserve the sound (AC3 I think)?

You can't preserve the audio. Extract it out to WAV. Leave it as WAV if you can. If not, encode the newer clip to an AC3 again, preferably 384k bitrate if you can.

TMPGEnc can demux MPEG files, using the MPEG TOOLS from the FILE menu.
