Blaupunkt RTV-965 vs. Philips VR1000?

Hello to everybody from this amazing forum. As many of you, I am having the problem to choose a good VCR for restoring into digital some old home videos.

I read so many posts about many models with TBC that could be fitted for this purpose but now I am facing a decision to be taken about a buying.

I have the possibility to buy one of the following:

1) BLAUPUNKT RTV-965 (many signs on the chassis and on the display, but fully operational) - 130 euro
2) PHILIPS VR1000 (very good conditions, based on the appearing) - 150 euro

I cannot test them because they are sold online and I can base my decision just on the pictures of the seller and on the price. Both of them are proposed on ebay and then I could benefit of the ebay warranty if some of them is faulty, after the buying.

I know that they are re-brand of Panasonic HS1000 and of a JVC 7600 (respectively), but I really cannot take a decision and I need your opinions about it and what you definitively do if you was facing this buying.
Thank you.

Assuming both are fully functional, my personal preference is Panasonic over JVC. But my experience is only from NTSC models.

Thank you for your reply. I read so many warnings about K mechanism in Panasonic systems where if it is heavly used it is about sure it will encounter problem with a little plastic piece at the top of the motor for loading and ejecting cassettes.

As nowdays I think it is hard to find some VCR system not heavly used, I had this concern about it. WHat do you think about ?

We got a NV-HS1000 and VR1100 here. I would go with the Philips if I had to get one today. That panasonic model often has issues with dropout correction, and it's a bit older, so more likely to have bad components and the mentioned K mechanism issue. On the other hand I've found the TBC in the panasonic to be a bit more reliable than the one in JVC/Philips models which is a bit prone to vertical jitter. (Though it seems to vary depending on the deck)

Really thanks to offer me your experience, as you own both of them. As the difference is just 20€, maybe is better Philips model to have more chance the VCR will be more likely working in the future due to better components.

However I would like to understand better what do you mean with "TBC in the panasonic to be a bit more reliable than the one in JVC/Philips models"?

Keep in mind I am buying this model just for Time Base Correction, as I already own a cheap Samsung VCR model.
Then, I am searching a good Time Base Correction at about 150€, also my target is to digitalize some 10s of old VHS with the better result I can achieve as in some cases I have rough VHS and maybe the correction could really help.. Also, why you are saying that it depends on the deck? What do you mean?

Thank you.

Please can anyone of you help me to take this decision? Please I need more advices about this purchase... Final price I had is 115 for Blaukpunkt or 144 for Philips.

Philips appear to be in great cosmetic conditions
Blaukpunkt have some signs on chassis

What do you suggest?

The Blaupunkt RTV-965(Panasonic HS-1000) is from 1994 and the Philips (JVC but no identical JVC modell maybe close to the HR-S7600) is from 1999.
I would buy the Philips if he looks better. I have the Blaupunkt RTV-965 & JVC HR-S7600 but I'm use both rarely to capture vhs tapes. The Blaupunkt has a sharper(noise) picture and the JVC blur more the video.

If you can't decide buy both.

:) I'd buy them both if I had such money for VCRs ....

However I HAVE to choose one of them. The bigger issue for me is the K mechanism problem that, according to some other forum I read, it will show uo surely...

If it should be true, then I will be obliged to service it in the next months...

Any other opinion?

Hello, I have another info about the philips model. The seller told me that the VCR:

"...it was used such as a normal home VCR: 5 years usage, about 1-2 usages per week for playing VHS cassettes, very few videorecordings. After 5 years packed again in its box and stored in a storage room"

According to this, how could it be valued the condition of the VCR?

About Blaukpunkt, the seller just told me: "It was only home used. "

Hello, I have another choice:

JVC HRS7722 in good conditions, price 125 euros. What do you think about it compared to the other 2 VCRs?
Thank you.

hodgey 02-07-2020 02:17 PM

It's very similar to the Phliips, albeit slightly newer, maybe comparable to the VR1100 line, should be at least as good as the VR1000 given the same conditions. (For people in NTSC land, the S7xxx models newer than the S7500 don't have dynamic drum, the PAL S8xxx are the equivialent to the NTSC S7xxx models.)

Thank you for your reply ... what about compared to blackpunkt?
