Cost effective VCR capture?

Hi everyone,

I have been doing a lot of research on trying to capture my old VHS home movies to a good, cost effective quality, while understanding that it won't be as good as it could possibly be if I invested the proper funds.

I have tried a few different tools (using VirtualDub) and purchased an Elgato video capture device off Amazon (capturing lossless video) and have a VC500 coming tomorrow. The Elgato video capture looks good overall, but it seems to be slightly shaky at the edges which I think is ruining the picture quality. I am hoping that the VC500 improves the capture slightly, though I admit my VCR might be the issue.

Outside of purchasing a new VCR/TBC, is there anything that I can do? Is there any cost-effective devices I can buy to make the quality better?

I appreciate any input you can provide! Thanks!
