Help need to get a good VCR S-VHS Player
 

Now that i bought the jvc dvdrecorder i think i need a vcr that has s-vhs. The vcr i have now might be a piece of crap. I mean i liked it when i was just watching vhs some years back.

Not really.

Get something S-VHS with TBC, yes. Do that for high quality.

Please do not confuse S-VHS ("Super VHS", a tape format) with s-video (a wire, "separated video", a signal transport method that keeps chroma and luma separate unlike coax or composite). S-video is indeed better than composite. Component and HDMI are better (but not really something you find on VHS or S-VHS, only DVD and HD). Component separates both chroma (there are two), plus the luma. HDMI is for digital only.

What's your budget? Sometimes you can get a good used JVC HR-S7000/9000/SR series machines for $150-250. That still doesn't include a good TBC, such as the AVT-8710 for $200.

.... and folks wonder why $20 per tape (to convert) is a fair deal. Equipment alone can run $1,000 or more by the time you add a broadcast proc amp, detailer and secondary VCRs and backup units.

Without a full TBC, it won't be possible to record tapes with copy protected, or unprotected tapes with errors similar to copy protection. Without a line TBC in a good VCR, you won't be able to remove various signal errors. Of course, the JVC DVD recorder will remove many of them, so you'll be okay with a "normal" VHS machine.

My budget depends on if it will be worth it.
How about i start with a JVC HR-S7000/9000/SR series machine and see how i like it. then when i get more money on my birthday comming up ill get the tbc.


Pretty much i need the starter kid for vhs to dvd. but i want good stuff but not ill have to sell my soul to the devil price. the price range you said seems fine if it makes the difference in quality.

also what is your opinion about connecting the vcr s-video to my 1080p Pioneer Elite Receiver and then Outputing from the receiver to the Jvc DVD Recorder?

Just do s-video from VCR to DVD recorder. The receiver would potentially cause quality loss, as it's nothing more than a pass-through (with zero advantages).

I might have to look into getting one of these. :)

I love my JVC 9800 :D It works wonders on tapes.

i cant find a 9800. that is the one i want but i might have to get a 9600

AVT-8710 or TBC-1000??? what would be good with a 9600 or 9800?

Hey Konfusion, just letting you know, Fry's carries those 12 stack cases. They are $12.99 for a 5 pack though. You're still better off getting a 48 pack for $43.00 total with shipping at Meritline.com

im slowly starting to need more of them. so i might end up doing that. that sounds like a good idea actually 48 will last me awhile since its all for personal use.
